finally! a magazine devoted to soapmaking

Soaping Magazine It looks like it would be a great magazine. I too prefer the printed magazine, but could live with a PDF. It seems a little high priced for online and I am a little confused because the renewal is $19 plus free gifts and 2 for 1, but for new subscriptions it is $23. Seems like...

    Hard and Conditioning

I tried again with less water (thanks carebear, I believe your right  ). I did it different though. I put my soap in a zip lock bag added 2-3 ounces of water and sealed it, them that bag into another and then a third. I put it in a stock pot of hot water (medium heat) and left it...

    Hard and Conditioning

Well the recipe I followed said to melt the soap to liquid. I could not get it to liquid, so I ended up whipping it into floating soap. Now looking back, when the recipe said heat to liquid, does that mean like taffy or caramel? That is what I had, or does it need to be like syrup? Any...

Do you think when re-batching it is better to do it sooner or wait for full cure?

    Hard and Conditioning

I am trying to figure out a recipe that makes a hard bar that is very conditioning. With the soap calculator if I go conditioning it goes soft and if I go hard it become less conditioning. If anyone know something that would make both high in a bar of soap, I'd love to know. Oh I don't want to...

Do you soak your herbs to prevent browning?

Herbs I was reading about steeping mint leafs in hot water like you'd make tea, let them dry, then add to soap. This sounds fine, but wouldn't you loose most of the fragrance from the leafs if you steeped them in hot water? I guess I was thinking that that was the reason for using mint leafs...

    Palm Oil Question

    Palm Oil Question

No, it was white (cream color) and solid. I really don't think it had a smell the last time I used it, it is just weird that it has a grassy smell. Maybe I cross contaminated it someway...

    Palm Oil Question

Thanks Thanks for all the responses. I thought about the shelf time before I acquired it and I have googled smell and grassy smell and palm and looked on vendor websites for palm and smell, but nothing. I think I'll call Mike at Soaper's Choice Monday and ask him since this is where I buy my...

    Ultramarine colors

Deda, Do you mix yours with Oils? What kind of ratio do you use or is it a pinch until you get the desired color? Thanks, Jeff

    Ultramarine colors

Hi, They make great colors and are cheap, but I quit using them because more than not I would have soap that had suds that were the color of the ultramarine. It is very easy (in my opinion to use too much and have color everywhere when you use the soap).

Oxides and Ultramarine From Brambleberry....how much?

As little as you can! When I first used them my soap had colored suds!
