How do you organize your soapin' gear?

I originally started with large plastic storage bins... but I've accumulated enough stuff (translation: become completely obsessed with the craft and cannot stop purchasing things!!) to be overwhelmed. I need this stuff to fit nicely into a closet, and be easy to find. I've been smart enough...

    Slab or log mold?

Which do you think creates prettier bars? It may be the quality of my log mold, but when I make a soap log and cut it, the bars come out a little wonky (because of crooked cuts) and obviously the top has texture, which I don't always like. I've never had a slab/flat mold, but I'm considering...

    Share your favorite scents/best-sellers?

Would any of you be willing to share your current best-selling/favorite scents? I understand if many of you don't want to for business reasons. I'm just having issues wading through all of the available scents, and I've resorted to making mostly non-scented soap! Fragrance is pretty expensive...

    Any benefits to no-gel?

I always make sure my soaps gel, but I've been reading a lot of topics about room temperature CP, followed by no gel. Can anyone summarize the differences in no gel soap, either in color, texture, ability to hold fragrance, performance "in the shower", etc? And does yours ever gel...

    I can't find the link!

I am looking for the link to a site where someone posted pictures of CP soap made out of individual oils, i.e. 100% Olive Oil Soap, 100% Coconut Oil Soap, etc... I tried using the search function here and on google, with no luck. Anyone have it saved that would be willing to share it with...

    Burn Salve

Hello! I have never made a salve before, let alone a burn salve. I have ridiculous amounts of hard and liquid oils from soaping and lotion making, as well as dried herbs. Any suggestions/easy recipes to get me started on making salves, and specifically one for minor burns? Thanks in...

    Recipe affecting mold release?

I have these lovely decorative molds (heavy duty ones from brambleberry, I was lucky enough to purchase them before they were discontinued. They're fantastic!) that are sometimes a challenge to work with. I line them with mineral oil to aid with release, which helps. However, it seems that...

    45% OO Soap

How long before I can cut this without getting streaks? Its been 3 days, I cut a piece off of the end, and it was still soft and streaky! I soap a similar recipe frequently, but I haven't made a log in a long time, so there was no need to cut until now!

    Parchment Paper

I want to make soap. But I ran out of freezer paper to line my mold, and it's cold and late so I don't want to go out and buy more. :) Will parchment paper work as a lining in a pinch? Thanks!

    licorice root and lotions

I've been wanting to make a face lotion with some soothing properties, and licorice root is known for some of its anti-inflammatory and de-sensitizing properties. Is licorice root powder acceptable to add to a lotion? I've only experimented with liquid additives in the past, so I'm not sure...

    Where do I find shows?

I realize this is a rediculously dumb question. I live in southwest Missouri, and I am starting to consider selling my soap. I would prefer, however to start by doing small craft shows/markets, not online. Unfortunately, I have never been one to frequent craft shows. The only one I know of is...

    Is this DOS? Pic

I'm going to be so bummed if it is. It doesn't smell at all. The spot is on 2 bars...

    Sweet Orange EO 8oz/$5?

At WSP they have 8 oz. Of sweet orange EO for $5. (And 32 oz for $10!) While sweet orange is on the lower end of EOs as far as cost, that is still a dirt cheap price. Has anyone used it before? Should I be suspicious? I normally trust WSP, but that just seems too good to be true!

    Will lilac FO re-seize?

I have been reading the last few days on the forum about rebatching soap by putting old soap chunks into a totally new batch. I have a 2# batch of lilac that seized on me, and I did a normal rebatch in the oven which only served to make it more hideous. If I tried adding these lilac soap...

Where do you like your soapcalc numbers?

It has started becoming necessity that I develop my own recipes, because my budget is not limitless (I've been soaping with some pricey oils) and I'm needing certain qualitites (like hardness, so I can use my decorative molds and not have release issues.) While I've always played with my own...

    Finally posting some pictures

So my digital camera broke a few months before I joined this forum. I've been putting off posting pictures, but I finally took some on my phone (which has decent camera, not great though). You guys probably all thought I was on here just to socialize, and didn't really make soap at all...

    Comments on these WSP scents?

I just ordered quite a few scents from WSP, most of which are not on the soap scent review board. I was very naughty and ordered 4 oz of most of them! :D I have had quite a few bad FO experiences with FOs lately, like seizing, accelerated trace, etc, so I'm feeling pretty wary of all of...

Did I screw up my first salt bar?

So I used a recipe of: 80% Coconut Oil 15% Castor Oil 5% Shea Butter 1 tsp ppo coconut milk powder Normal water, no discount Salt was 50% of my oil amount Spiced mahogany FO Things did not start out well, my soap traced pretty quickly. I mixed in the salt the best I could, and poured...

    WSP "economy scents"

The website just describes them as more simple in their character, less notes, etc. Do you feel like they don't smell as nice or are of a lower quality? I always order from the "standard" scents, I'm scared to go any cheaper!

molds won't release, i've tried every trick i know!

I just got some new milky way molds, one being the bee guest mold. I wanted to make my face soaps in it (which are soft for longer than most of my other recipes, I'll admit.) Anyways, I lined my molds with mineral oil, poured, waited a few days and had no luck with release so I left it alone...
