Hi Everyone.

So yesterday, i went out and brought this kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HANDMADE-SOAP-MAKING-CRAFT-KIT-BY-HOUSE-OF-CRAFTS-/310541680514?pt=UK_Carfts_Candle_SoapMaking_EH&hash=item484db9ff82

which was easy and i made a bar of soap within 2 hours. The soap part was already made so i just needed to melt it and mix and set for 2 hours.

looking at a raw recipe i'm confused how long it takes to set? http://www.channel4.com/4homes/how-to/craft/how-to-make-soap

Can anyone please give me some insight, as i really enjoyed making this!

Hi, base on the link, i suppose you are doing MP soap. It is a different thing as oppose to raw recipe where you will be dealing with oil directly and we have the cold process n hot process method.

There lots more things to look out in building on a raw recipe.

Doing it from scratch, it can take anywhere from one day to a week to set, depending on your recipe. It then also has to 'cure' for awhile, a few weeks or so, to allow the water to evaporate and the bar to harden. With CP, it saponifies in the mold, and with HP, it saponifies in the pot and is technically usable right out of the mold.

If you do decide to try making cold process or hot process soap, I would urge you not to follow that channel 4 recipe. There are all kinds of things wrong with it. Instead, go to YouTube and watch SoapQueen videos or Soaping 101 videos, read up on soap at millersoap.com, or order a book such as Smart Soapmaking by Anne L. Watson. Also, you're in a good place to learn a lot as there is a lot of expertise on the forum so keep asking questions here, too and before long you'll be making more soap than you know what to do with like the rest of us. :)
