Hi
I have very little experience in soap making. Where can I learn about HP? I only have experience with CP. I want to learn about making shaving soap following the recipe of Songwind, but before that I think I need to know about HP, because there I can't find details such as temperature, what's the meaning of superfat etc.

Thanks
Ignacio

Right here, silly!
Welcome, Ignacio! :)

Besides the threads linked to above, here are a few simple pointers:

HP is the same thing as CP, only it's heated all the way to saponification, i.e., any recipe you make via CP can also be HP'd..... but you'll need to make sure to use enough water when HPing, otherwise your batter will become too dry to be workable.

When I do HP, I use a 'full water amount', which is generally a 28% lye concentration.

Most people use crockpots when they HP, but a crockpot is not necessary. For example, I myself make my HP batches in a stainless steel soup pot in my oven, which I set to about 170F to 180F (77C - 82C). Some people HP hotter than that (about 200F/93C), but 77C-82C is my happy place.

When I HP, I proceed as I normally would when I make CP, but when my soap reaches med-thick trace, instead of pouring the batter off into my soap mold, I cover my stainless soap (soup) pot and place it in my heated oven to cook it through the gel stage and then onto zaplessness. Then I color and scent and pour/glop the batter into my mold.

As far as superfat in HP goes, I'm one of those that calculates the superfat up front, the same as I do for CP, but others like to add special oils or butters after the cook. Here are some threads that help to explain adding superfats after the cook:

This is just an interesting HP superfat thread that gives food for thought:
