Being a newbie I have been reading lots of posts and stuff on the internet trying to glean as much info as possible in order to create my own first recipe. I am a little confused however as I have come across information on coconut oil that says it is an emollient and moisturizing and yet it can dry the skin.....how can it do both?! :?
Thanks in advance!

Coconut oil itself is an emollient. But, after the chemical change it goes through in soap, it is a very effective cleanser and thus, drying.

This exactly. Works great on skin and hair until it's turned into the salt we know as soap. Then can bee drying in too large amounts.

It's one of my favourite examples of where people look at an oil and think it will be so in a soap, mainly as the difference is so very pronounced.
