That's awesome. I too have been wondering about candles but haven't dedicated the time to sort through information. This looks like a real time (and money!) saver.

It'd be great to see more posts an candle making here on SMF for enhanced learning. Maybe this will prompt it.

One thing I learned lately, about making wax melts was to either use soy pillar wax or palm pillar wax. I have always used a mix of soy wax, beeswax and palm wax.

Interesting but a lot of the information on there appears either out of date or is at least different in the US to the UK.

Obviously this is written by NG and is skewed towards their products so remember there are loads of other wax and wick suppliers as well. Many wax blends available no longer need vybar or any other additions and produce excellent hot and cold throws and are suitable for a number of different functions.

Also, dont forget that if you are selling candles or melts or any home fragrance product in the EU you must produce a CLP label for each candle etc and have fragrance and business specific SDS sheets available for each fragrance - not all US FO manufacturers are able to provide the information in a format that does not incur additional costs and it is, in general, not something the average person can do without specialist computer programs.

I've used soy pillar blend from the start and have never had any problems, looks like I got the right one.

Anything mentioning Crisco shortening is definitely from the 90s or early 00s. Nobody believed that much past 2005, and there is other outdated info. Most of the best candle information is buried in CraftServer. It began life as the CandleTech board and the trove of info there is similar to the soaping information here. In fact, it was also a good soap board in its day. Not a bad idea to read those threads.

Thank you TOMH I kind of thought that about Crisco but its not something we get over here so I couldnt say for certain how old the reference was!

Will be checking out the other info though, always up for some useful reading!
