@dixiedragon @cmzaha Thank you. The slab splitter my son made me might be black walnut. I'll have to ask him. I haven't had a problem with it yet, but it doesn't get heavy use and I clean it well before I put it away. But good to know I probably shouldn't get lazy and keep it clean.
 
The old boy made me a nice oak soap slicer!! Looks super professional! Then he stained the wood.
Does polyurethane hold up to lye?


Would you Old Boy help us out with the plans and dimensions of the Slicer? If not, how much would he charge to make one? I would LOVE one of those!

Of course, a soap dish has wet soap sitting on it so that would be a difference.
