    How much honey?

I have used a bit of honey in some of my soaps, but never enough to be able to really tell any difference in non-honey soap. What is the max or "normal" amount of honey that works in soap? If I add too much what kind of problems would I end up with? I need to make some oatmeal/honey and just...

    Advantages of Coconut Milk?

I have seen CM used as the water in soap. What is the advantage of using CM? I have several cans on hand of pure CM, it's the kind that is very thick, very little "water" in it and no additives. It makes the best "CM whipped cream". Is that the kind to put in soap?

    Brine soap crumbling into powder

I made some brine soap last week, dissolved the salt into the water then added the lye and dissolved that. It turned milky white like the article said it would. I stirred and stirred and everything seemed to dissolve. I didn't have the article in front of me (I know, I know..) and could not...

    Pioneer HP soap?

I was just at a pioneer type amusement park that had a soap booth. All the soap was tightly wrapped in plastic stretch wrap. When I picked up a bar it was soft, like half melted butter. I picked up several more, the same thing. When she finally had a moment I asked her about the soap being so...

    What am I doing wrong?

I have used red oxide from TKB Trading twice now and each time and each time the soap has ended up with the consistency of clay. I did a swirl last night and the part with the oxide feels like clay while the uncolored part feels like soap. I looked at their site for usage % but didn't find...

    Shea butter vs. shea oil?

I have seen both Shea oil and Shea butter. When would you use one vs the other? It looks to me like the oil has more conditioning properties than the butter, but I have only seen the butter listed by people who use Shea.

    Oxide usage?

How much oxide is normally used in CP? I made some soap in Sept and put in red oxide, about 1.5 teaspoon for 2 lb of oil. I haven't used much oxide before. The recipe was a tried and true on. The soap has never hardened, it has a clay consistency. Did I use to much? Any suggestions?

    Deer Tallow?

I just rendered about 1 1/2 lbs of deer tallow. Wondering if anyone can tell me about it's qualities in soap? I usually use beef tallow or lard, and see that the numbers aren't too different, so I am assuming that overall my soap "should" be along the same lines. Am I right?

    Rebatch help please

I needed to rebatch some soap last week and I hate doing that. Mine rebatch always comes out globby looking to me. Is this normal? I am attaching a pix of the loaf and the cut bars.

    FO/EO storage?

How/where do you store your FOs or EOs? I do my soaping in the garage where I have a kitchen set up, but it gets very hot out there in the summer, it can be over 100 degrees on hot days, and I am not sure of leaving them out there in those temps. And it gets cold in the winter. I keep them in a...

    Cutter using guitar wire?

Does anyone one use a soap cutter that utilizes a guitar? DH is willing to make me a cutter, but he wants to know what wire is used. I don't know anything about guitar wires, but I assume there are different gauges, or thicknesses, but don't know what would work best. Any ideas?

EO in soap as bug repellent?

Are there any EOs that you can put in a soap that will help repel bugs? I know citronella is supposed to, but it stinks and that is one smell I can't work with. I was wanting to come up with something before spring gets here that will help keep the little flying mouths back a little bit, but be...

Will a seized batch turn out?

If a batch seizes when you add your EO, and you can smash it into the mold, is there much of a chance you will have useable soap eventually? My sister decided to attempt making soap on her own, never touched it before. She HP, had it looking good, about ready to mold it, added EO (I don't know...

    Questions about using palm oil

I haven't used palm very much, it's not easy to get here, but I did get some. Do I need to melt it and stir it each time before I use it? Any advice on it's use? Thanks

    Citrus EOs

I head that you need to use something else when you use a citrus oil, but I can't find what you have to do in order to use citrus EOs. What about citrus FOs - would I need to do something special with them? I haven't used any citrus scents or EOs but didn't want to waste them when I do.

    deodorant soap?

A friend only likes to use "deodorant" soap, he's afraid he would be a stinky boy without it. Any suggestions on making a deodorant soap?

    Shampoo bars?

I have been looking for a shampoo recipe and was hoping someone has a tried and true one. My hair is naturally curly, colored and tends to be dry. I wash it, condition it, towel dry and brush. That's the extent of my hair care, I hate messing with it and putting stuff on it. Since I started...

    Lye too hot

Help please. I made a batch of CP a few weeks ago. Normally I use a room temp method, mix all my oils together, make my lye water and pour it into the oil pot and let it melt my hard oils while mixing with a stick blender. But this day I planned to let the lye cool to about 95F or so, and melt...
