Cold Process Soap for the base of other products

I am interested in what other things cold process soap can be used as an ingredient in. For example, cold process laundry soap. I made some the other day and I quite enjoyed making it. I then realized I could probably use it as a scouring powder as well. Then I read somewhere you can use castle...

    Red Wine Soap Weirdness

I have never soaped with wine before so I picked up a cheap bottle of wine and boiled it and froze it. So I made the wine, and I was disappointed with the colors but overall I think it turned out okay other then unmolding it too soon. Anyways, when I cut the bars I found this strange pattern...

    Frustrations :(

I am a returning soaper. I quit for about a year and tonight I decided to pick up where I left off. So off to the liquor store to get some beer, boiled it, froze it. Made my soap, it was looking amazing then I added Aroma Haven Ginger Souffle and it turned from a nice trace into a gloppy curdled...

    Soapy Sadness

Today I went to check on all my soap. I noticed that I had DOS on 5 bars all from the same batch. It is an FO I have never used before and for the life of me I can't remember what I put in it for oils. I was super sad. I suppose these bars are garbage now. I separated them from the rest of the...

Sodium Hydroxide's effects on soap additives

So, we all know that lye is caustic stuff and has an incredibly high pH. I am just curious about whether or not such a high pH affects certain additives. I see alot of "miracle" soaps on the cold process market. For example, tomato complexion soap, carrot soap, tea tree soap. Does the lycopene...

    Weird Oil Additive

I bought some canola oil today that has beta carotene in it and I am going to use it it to color some of my batches. However, it also contains dimethicone. I was wondering if dimethicone in the oil will adversely affect the soap?

This is my margarita salt bar. Its 95% coconut 5% castor. Looks pretty plain but smells amazing. I used 80% salt. I was able to prevent gel by sticking it in a snow bank for an hour By taylorlg89 at 2011-11-13 This one is my first layered soap. It is a mixture of oils I had laying around...

    Gelling salt bars

I just made a batch of salt bars in individual molds and I threw them outside to prevent gel because I am pretty sure I soaped too hot and I know my salt for some reason has dextrose in it so that will make it heat up more. However, I read somewhere you have to gel salt bars? Is this true?

    My exciting night

Last night I ended up in the ER with chest pain and spent 10 hours in hospital ruling out a heart attack. As soon as I was released I wanted to rush home and make soap with the new scents I got in the mail today LOL

    Weird Green Color

A few weeks ago I made a basic soap recipe. It was lard, castor, olive oil, and grapeseed oil. No coloring or scent, used aloe juice instead of water. I used a silicone cupcake mold and put them in the fridge. Tonight I wanted to try one, so I cut a sliver off one of the soaps I dropped on the...

    Coconut Oil and Beta-Caroetene

I found a local source for coconut oil, however, the oil is yellow. The reason is its used for popcorn making and they add beta carotene for flavor and color. Has anyone used coconut oil with beta carotene added?

    Creations From Eden

I recently placed an order with Creations With Eden. At first glance, the website looks pretty shabby and I was hesitant to place an order. However, I had a good chat with the owner/operator and she is an exceptional person to work with. I decided to place an order and I was glad I did. The...

    Simply Soap

I want to make a triple-oil soap that is unscented, uncolored, and pretty much additive free. I was planning on using 47.5% lard, 47.5% lard, and 5% castor. According to soapcalc this is impossible? How is that so? How can any soap not have a cleansing factor? I was hoping to stay away from palm...

    First PVC molded Soap

First attempt at using a PVC pipe. It was 2in pipe. I should have went with the 3 inch pipe. It turned out well, except I can't cut straight at all! I will invest in a cutting intrstument of some sort lol. Its a shaving soap made of castor, lard, coconut, olive oil, with kaolin, extra...

    Stupid PVC Mold!

I made a shaving soap 2 days ago and I used a 2in PVC pipe to mold it. Well, stupid me didn't line it with anything and didn't put mineral oil inside. How the $%&* do I get it out? I have tried freezing and letting it sweat and pushing on it but it was stuck enough that it didn't budge :(
