So, whatever you use for color, if it is something which is mixed with water, do you account for that water by subtracting the amount used in your lye water, or treat it as its own entity?

A lot of people mix their colorants with a tablespoon of glycerin and it does not have to be accounted for in the recipe. If you are using cocoa, you might want to just take out a little of the soap after it just reaches emulsification and mix it with your cocoa.

If I mix a colorant with oil I take it from my soft oils. If I use water I subtract from the water/lye amount. I've used a little glycerine to mix a mica that I dotted/swirled on top of my soap and didn't subtract it from my oils. I've used cocoa twice. Once I mixed it with a little soap after emulsification and it came out dark brown. Today I mixed it with water and a little powdered milk and it came out a light brown (like a light brown sugar color).
