I am going to make a 2 lb batch of soap this weekend, and I want a nice fragrance...but I can't decide on which one? There seems like there are so many factors to consider: what accelerates trace, if the scent will hold up through saponfication.....

I am getting more overwhelmed than I should.....I was thinking of using either:

Rose fragrance oil
Jasmine Absolute
Lavender
Rose Geranium

I just don't know which one to pick or even how to create a blend.

Can someone give me any advice on where to even start?? :Kitten Love::Kitten Love:

I would try the lavender for a scent, it shouldn't give you any trouble and you can concentrate on making the soap. Blending is hard imho. Lavender will come through and scent your soap beautifully. Have fun, don't forget to show us pics :)

Hi Beens4reezy! I think starting with Lavender is a good idea for it is relatively easy to use. Many florals can be a pain to work with because they can seize your soap batter/lye solution real fast. Sign up with the Scent Review Board website (link: http://soapscentreview.obisoap.ca/ ) and you can see fragrance reviews by many soapmakers concerning hundreds and hundreds of various fragrances offered by many suppliers.

For blending, I did a Google search (fragrance blending for soapmaking) and there are many websites listed. Try this one for starters: http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/fragrancesandaromatherapy/ht/htcustblend.htm and here is one showing different blending ideas for soap and candles: http://www.candletech.com/general-information/scent-mixing-ideas/. These links are just examples. Once you get the idea on how to blend you will be spending a lot of time playing "mad scientist" in trying new combinations. Have fun!

And keep good notes of the combinations you try with amounts, you will think you will remember but you won't... Have fun! Lavender and rose is a pretty combination.
