rendering tallow w/ baking soda

Hi all. Well I just tried the tallow with some baking soda to get rid of smell we shall see. Intresting as it simmered there were bubbles almost like a small amount of dish detergent was in the pot. I will let ya'll know if it helped tomorow.
I just to be safe poured it through a fine tea strainer ino a container that now will go in fridge overnight.

Update Rendered Tallow w/ baking Soda

Hi ok update it worked the Tallow is a nice white and there is almost no oder at all. Bye for now

The bubbling was probably the baking soda saponifying the free fatty acids.

I'm anxious to see how it works... I'm pretty confident it will do well though I won't be surprised if you need to do the process one or two more times.

I'm curious, how much baking soda did you use?

Well I had about 6 oz tallow so about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
