DeeAnna you are a diamond! That is just what I've been looking for. I've been meaning to try some older recipes for ages but always been put off by the numbers soapcalc comes up with, the recipe I've just tried had a lauric acid content higher than stearic acid (18 vs 16). But I did a quick test lather when it came out of the oven and it looked and felt as good as others I've tried with a stearic acid content in the mid 50s (haven't shaved with it yet, which is the real test but it looks good so far). Every time I think I'm starting to understand what's going on I'll try something that makes me realise I don't understand it that well at all

fatfacedcharlie, thanks for starting this thread. After joining the shave forums I was introduced to varies soaps. My go to shave soap is now MdC and have always thought about trying to reproduce it myself.
I'll keep an eye on this thread, for the extra info., and someday I may get around to making the shave soap. I still have MdC remaining, but will probably just ask for more for x-mas.
I'm currently busy with other projects, working on a pre-shave bar and shampoo.

Ryan, have you seen the thread titled "My first shaving soap is a success!" started by Songwind? Here's a link: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=34264

If you like MdC, I'd sure check it out, since Songwind shares a recipe he created to duplicated MdC. I've made several batches using Songwind's recipe and it really is a nice soap. Never having used MdC myself, I can't say how it compares to MdC, but the guys who ~have~ tried both are highly complimentary about Songwind's version.

Here's a related thread "Shaving Soap Mash-Up!" in which Jaime shares her experiences with her version of Songwind's recipe: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=38607 Very funny....!

Thank you DeeAnna,
This will give me something to read this weekend.
