Here I go with another crazy idea..
Prices are going up on everything these days, including dish soap.
If you buy the cheap stuff at a dollar store...well you get what you pay for.
So, can I make inexpensive dish soap from say Crisco?
Remembering how much liquid soap I made before from 32ozs of olive oil
(1.5+gals) I decided to go with 6lbs of 70/30 Crisco/coconut mix.
Coconut for increased lather and faster drying dishes.
With Crisco I know and am not after clarity, just decent dish soap.
Basicaly no big deal just followed basic liquid soap making.
Took alot of pictures along the way so I will just link them so they dont bog the page down.

What I started with:

Oils all melted:

Lye is in an hitting it with stick blender:

Apple sauce? lol

Starting to turn into soap paste:

Omg its growing:

The point I decide its close enough:

Since this was such a large amount we went straight to the 5gal bucket and a drywall mixer for diluting the paste:

Foam has settled and soap is thick, maybe at least 1 more gallon to dilute.
Still a thick concentrate so I decide to dilute and scent small amounts from here.
The center is concentrate the outer 2 are reheated diluted and scented to lemon/mango (veary nice):

went a little cloudy after cooling but no big deal for dish soap.

That's too funny. I just bought some at the dollar store today! I find it amuzing that you have to use soap to clean up after making soap

Boy, it really did grow!! Please let us know how it works on the dishes!

That looks great, but I have found that my homade liquid soap does not work well for dishes in our hard water. I do use it as hand soap though. I have also tried using homemade soap in a laundry forumla. Again it does not work well in our hard water. I wish we had soft water, so I could use my own for dishes and the laundry.

Well I actualy made this about 3 weeks ago.
So far works great, my dishes are clean :)
I think the coconut oil does seem to make them dry faster.
No oily film after (like the dollar store stuff did).

Myself, I have always used the leftover residue from making soap to clean up after making soap. that does sound weird lol

Isg, not sure what to say on your hard water issue, personaly have sulfur water.
What exactly is it that your soap does from hard water?
Not lather enough or breaks down too quick?
Perhaps our group here can help.
