I was wondering if anyone knew how quickly coconut milk goes bad in soap? I know once coconut milk is opened it doesn't last very long refrigerated or not. Thanks to anyone who has any input.

it is my understanding that milks don't go bad in soap as the lye sort of acts as a 'preservative'.

What Soapfairy said. Out of all of the batches of milk soap I've made, whether with goat milk or coconut milk, none have ever gone bad, even years down the road. It's the same with my batches made with finely pureed foodstuffs such as avocado, egg yolks, cucumber, carrots, tomato, etc.... Lye and its high pH change things significantly.

IrishLass :)

Lye doesn't reliably protect against rancidity.

Probably another way to phrase the question would be:

Does coconut milk cause DOS ?

That being said, I don't know the answer myself. Only contributing to the question here :D
