Ceremide?

I have a friend with eczema, and my mission is to make goodies for her. She uses a lotion with ceremides in it (which works for her), which is a lipid molecule/fatty acid. Does anybody know anything about this? If it is a natural fat or synthetic? I have some good ideas for soaps for her, but was also wondering about this.
