Hi all,

I run a small shop on Etsy selling my handmade bath products. All has been going well so far and my bombs have gotten great feedback, but the only problem/complaint is that they’re sometimes too soft and don’t hold together well during shipping, even though I pack them very well. I’d appreciate some feedback on the recipe as to how to make them harder. I’ve been using:

22oz baking soda
12oz citric acid
4 oz sea salt (grounded down into powder)
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon kaolin clay

1 tablespoon polysorbate 80
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon fragrance oil
1 tablespoon pigment

Spray with witch hazel as needed. Makes about 10 normal round bombs or 4 jumbo bombs. I set them out to dry on my dining table for at least 24hrs. According to my thermostat, it’s anywhere from 49-51% percent humidity indoors when I make them. Any higher and I wait for drier weather.

Any suggestions or constructive criticism is welcome. I’m thinking of maybe adding more kaolin clay? Thank you in advance

I would switch your olive oil up for some cocoa butter or coconut oil. I've found using liquid oils makes softer bath bombs. I also use Baking Soda and Citric Acid 2:1. I also don't add cornstarch to mine.

I would use melted cocoa butter. It makes for very hard bath bombs. I don't use cornstarch or clay in my bath bombs.
