    Felted soap

I've been felting soap for a while. My highlights have always consisted simply of different colored wools on top the white base felt. I was looking around on ETSY, and see that people are putting intricate designs... flowers and animals... on felted soap. Does anyone know how they do that?

    Felted M&P

I hope to wholesale felted M&P. One setback I've had is that after a while, lather doesn't come easily through the felt. (I assume this is because some moisture is lost because of the felt?) Anyway, I put a small amount of liquid hand soap into the melt with the scent with VERY good results...

    Accurate measures

I've heard weight, not volume for measuring FO's. True? I'm doing small quantities, and am nervous about measuring .21 ounces. Is there a good way to do that small of a weight? I was thinking of weighing the right amount, then marking that on a pipette, and then going by volume? Anyone...

    Lumps in M&P

I try to microwave M&P as little as I can and still get the job done. I sometimes see lumps when I'm pouring. Question: how much does it matter? The only negative I can think of is when I'm using fragrances. The lumps don't have them, and the surrounding base has a very slightly higher...

    Those potent fragrence oils

I bought 6 fragrance oils from Crafter's Choice, and just used them for the first time. I had no idea they were so strong, so bought some spiffy plastic beakers to measure them with. WRONG. Quickly ate the paint right off the beakers (so now there are no incriment markers on the beakers) and...

    Dropped post?

On Dec 3 or 4, I posted a question asking you all about your favorite or best selling scents. I can't find the post. I tried refreshing, searching, closing the site, re-opening, nothing works. HELP! Where is that post? (Ironically, last night I was going to write down the suggestions from...

    How about favorite scents?

Thanks for the input on aesthetically pleasing sizes. How about your favorite (or best selling) scents? Thanks

    Aesthetically pleasing soap sizes

I'm currently making rectanglar soaps that are 7/8" X 2" X 3" and I think those are nice proportions. If I add a medium and a large size, do you think I should just add a percentage to the above, or create slightly different proportions? Hopefully, these are for retailing. Thanks for any...

    Airborn particles

Yesterday was the first day I did more than a couple bars of M&P at a time. For reasons too boring to explain, I start the process in the micro-wave, and finish it in a roaster oven half filled with semi-boiling water. There are 3, four cup measuring cups in the roaster oven, each of them...

    Lining molds

I've skimmed the topics (10 pages worth, anyway) and read all the posts I found dealing with removing soap from molds. Most (all?) of the discussion revolved around loaf molds. (The possible exception being spraying with oil.) What I would like is for the soap to come out of the mold in...

    Where to buy lye?

I have been looking for a retail outlet here with no success. So... to the internet, right? I read an article that said lye is now regulated by law somehow. So do I need to buy 5 pounds and pay $15 in shippimg to get two ounces of lye for one batch of soap? HELP!!!

    Crock pot questions

Can you put the base directly into the crock pot? Would you use that same crock pot for food, or buy a different one exclusively for soap? Would there be hot spots that would burn the melt?

    Best way to chip M&P?

Cutting it up with a knife before double boiling or micro-waving works fine for small batches. But it is time consuming and VERY hard on the hands. Does anyone have a smart way to do it for high production? I bought an electric planer cuz I thought, what the heck... and it was cheap. CP...

    Re-batching question

I have designed and built a prototype mold that works great for M&P. It occurred to me that it might work for CP, so I'd like to test it with CP. However, I have never made CP soap, and I would rather not go to all the trouble of making one batch just to test if I don't have to. Question...

Craters on top of the soap

Don't know what else to call them. Dips on the top surface of the soap. I figured air bubbles IN the soap that came to the top. So I poured slower and slower and slower until the last batch, where I'm sure the bottom was hardening while I was still pouring. The craters are smaller, (almost...

    Removing hardened soap from HDPE

Has anyone out there used an HDPE mold (the type with the “rough” surface… not the super smooth stuff) with both CP and M&P? Is it easier to remove M&P from this plastic than it is CP? Thanks.

Shaving M&P base for richer lather?

I'm still concerned about thin, watery, and non-existent lather (i've tried 6 bases). Has anyone tried... or does anyone have any opinions on, adding a bit of shaving soap base to a regular M&P base? Seems like it would have to make richer lather and be gentle to skin. I can think of a...

    'Watery' lather?

i am just starting to make M&P. I bought four types from New Direction Aromatics. (Clear, Non-certified Organic, Shea, and Natural SLS Free.) The soaps don't lather like I'm used to. Not to say it's bad, but it IS different. The lather is more "watery." I tried all four and, though...

    My first "batch" questions

I'm going to talk to the guy who sold me the mold ... but maybe you all have some ideas. I bought the 18 bar tray and the guy who makes them told me that it would be fine for M&P. For this "batch" I used only two center slots, and taped around them to prevent the melt from running all over the...

    Fumes from M&P?

I have a parrotlet which can die from fumes from Teflon cookware. Obviously a sensitive little guy. Anyone know anything about potential fumes from either microwaving or using the double boiler for M&P?
