    Charcoal & Pumpkin Swirl

Thanks everyone :) I was aiming for a "manly" scent, so just used some EO of tea tree and eucalyptus.

    Charcoal & Pumpkin Swirl

I'm back soaping, and back on the forum for the first time in ages  Pretty happy with this one, my first swirl attempt - it's a hanger swirl, with activated charcoal, and pumpkin and red palm oil making the orange (it looks more yellow in the picture than in real life). This batch is...

    A everything went wrong soap

I really like how it looks - like a slab of marble :) I know that may not be what you were aiming for, but still if that's an 'everything went wrong' soap - well, you should see some of mine

    Oatmeal Stout Beer

I haven't tried it yet, but did bookmark this one from Soap Queen: http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/cold-process-soap/last-call-advanced-oatmeal-stout-cp-2/ Happy soaping :) ETA: Doh, just realised you were looking for a recipe without FO - just leave it out I guess?

How come no one puts where they are from?

While I understand that some people may not want to disclose their location, I'm pretty sure that anyone tech savvy could trace my IP address or something anyway. Besides, I'm always interested to see where others are from, and to spot my fellow Europeans - it does help with the 'where can I...

What does your screen name mean?

Mine comes from an old computer game called Gauntlet II that I used to play on my old Nintendo NES in my teens. The game spoke the character's names aloud a lot, e.g. 'Welcome Blue Valkyrie' etc. I used to choose that character because I loved the idea of a valkyrie in Norse mythology - dark...

    very confused!

Sorry for not getting to this sooner :) I made it exactly as you stated (227g of water) - that is how it appears in Anne Watson's book. I did run it through soapcalc, and played with ratios etc until I could get it to come up with the water amount stated in the recipe, as I wanted to...

    very confused!

Those cupcakes look great :) I've soaped the exact same recipe as the original one that you posted - it's the first one in the Smart Soapmaking book by Anne Watson. Mine turned out fine, and is one of my favourite soaps so far - very gentle and creamy. I had no issues at all with it, and...

    bright purple

 Thanks for the info Fragola - I see the same applies to blue potatoes. Oh well...

    bright purple

Slight thread hi-jack, but has anyone here ever soaped purple carrots? I know that regular carrots keep their colour - do you think these would too? The idea popped into my head last week and I can't seem to shake it. Going to have to go to the veggie shop :D

How many little goblins visited your home?

Not even one here :( That's unusual - usually there are a few local families who drop in to me. I find that it's changed a lot around here - when I was a child, it was all home-made costumes and plastic bags from the supermarket to collect your goodies. Now everything is bought readymade...

    Ugly Partial Gel

I thought about that, but the mould was an old milk carton, which I tore off the soap, so I couldn't replace it in the mould. If it had been a loaf, I think I would have tried popping it in the oven for a bit.

Those look beautiful - really have to try soaping with goatsmilk. Really interesting to see the gelled vs not gelled comparison :)

    It's that time of year

Yum - those look good enough to eat - especially if they smell of ginger ale :D

    Ugly Partial Gel

lol  Unfortunately it has about another month of cure to go before I would consider giving it to anyone, so it may be next year's Halloween soap - unless you can come up with a creative christmas story for it... :)
