While looking around again for a local source of citric acid, I came across a place that also sells sodium hydroxide for water treatment purposes. It says:
Sodium Hydroxide (caustic soda) 20%-50%.

My thought is that I need pure (99%) sodium hydroxide for CP. Am I correct?

I wouldn't use that either.

I used to get mine from the local hardware store, granular 100 percent lye. But no matter what I did, it had a lot of static and granules bounced all over my kitchen.

Been ordering for several years from essentialdepot.com and it's behaved perfectly, no bouncing escaped granules. They usually specials for free shipping or large discounts. From what others have said, The Lye Guy is a good source too.
