I've read canola oil has a relatively short shelf life and wondered if rice bran oils or other oil might be a better sub,or if this is really true, thanks

High Oleic Canola works just fine. I have also used regular Canola up to 15% with no issues. I do not use OO but love Sunflower HO, Canola HO, and Avocado Oil. I use Sunflower HO and Canola HO at 25% in my vegan recipe. Avocado Oil has become a bit pricey so I do not use it in all my soaps anymore. You can get the HO versions from Soapers Choice
