I have recently purchased some 60% SL and have been researching usage rates, the site said 1/2oz ppo but I have read that is a bit too much and may cause crumbling. So any good ideas on where to start? Also, do you take your amount of SL you use and take the equal amount of water out, or continue as usual and the SL is just extra?
Thanks for any help!

I don't reduce my water, but consider the SL as just extra. 1.5 oz PPO sounds like a lot to me. I add mine to my lye liquid, and admit it's one of the few things I eyeball instead of measuring by weight. I add roughly less than a teaspoon ppo. Anything much over that and I get bars that are too hard and get splotchy white and crumbly.

I use sodium lactate in every batch at 2% of the oil,
I add the sodium lactate to my lye water
and decrease my water by this amount

I used to use it for ease in unmolding at 1% of oil weight. But more often than not, I forget, and I don't notice much difference. YMMV.
