If it is recommended that you use 5% fragrance, how much is that? lol I can't get these percentages straight. Thank you.

f/o

fragrancing is one of the greatest challenges in soapmaking! each vendor seems to be different. i use a measuring glass you can get in the kitchen isle of walmart. on the sides it has up to 4 oz in .25 oz increments.

when they say 5% f/o is that per pound of oils or per pound of soap?
example: 5 pounds finished soap= 80 oz x 5% = 4 oz fragrance oils.

when they say .7 oz ppo-per pound of oils:
example: 3.5 pounds of oil x .7= 2.45 oz round up to 2.5 oz

when in doubt, i use more-i'd rather have it a bit strong than have it too week.

i always keep a journal of fragrances i use. that way 6 months from now i can go back and see how much i used and how it performed.

The most commonly recommended amounts seem to be 1 oz FO ppo and 0.7 oz FO ppo

1 oz (28.35 grams) per pound oils (ppo) is 5.9%
0.7 oz (19.9 grams) ppo is 4.2%

5% would be 0.85 oz (24 grams) ppo

Yes, it is per pound. I don't want to use too much.
Thank you for your input. This is so confusing. lol Why can't they make it simple with 1 oz per pound. That is what I am used to.

I start w/ .5 oz per pound of oils. I also use a shot glass to measure becuase FO will melt plastic.

Hope that helped,
b
