I want to make a pine tar soap. Can I use my regular recipe? If so, what oil do I sub. Part of the Olive, Palm or what. I was thinking about 20%. Is that too high.

Relative newbie (8 batches only)

TIA

Chris

"If you do a search there is a huge amount of information. I created a special base recipe, but others don't. I used 20% and soaped very cool. Mix tar with oils and lye and stir by hand as it traces very fast."

I've heard it said that if there is to be any benefit from using pine tar, then 20% would be the minimum amount to use.

I made one batch for some friends who were interested in seeing if it would help out with their skin condition.

All I can say is, prepare for a lightening speed trace and major stench! :)

Pine tar has a SAP value of .043 and specific gravity of 1.035.
