Has anyone used a pH testing device (not a litmus paper but an actual hardware) to test the pH of the soap? How did you do it? Did you stick the measuring stick in the soap or did you wet the soap and placed the meter there?

I would like to increase my quality control measures and would like to do this pH test on a device in addition to doing a zap test. Thanks!

This is the pH meter that I'm planning to buy. Would it work for soaps?

It's true that the slurry you're supposed to make out of
CP soap may drop the pH a bit due to the water so lately
I've been sudsing up the bar really well then testing
the surface of the bar itself hopeing for less water and more
bar interaction with the strips.

For me as long as the strips don't go over 9 i'm okay,
knowing i'm probably 1 number higher. Someone once
mentioned that the difference between the numbers
changes exponetially the higher you go.
Like the difference between pH 9 to 10 is much higher
than the difference between pH 5 to 6. I don't know
if that is true.

Here's the one I'm getting soon:

The same kits are available at

However... now that i'm looking at the one agriffin posted, it
seems to be much more affordable and do the same things?

the only way the ph meters will work for soap is if you test the h20 first, then put soap in it mixed up, then measure again... I have a hannah dual combo ph/ppm meter but I dont use it for soaping because this method is inaccurate.. Id go with the method donny suggested over using a meter like that because as a dry product you need to mix it with water to test it, with the stuff donny's talking about its a little easier cause you dont have to measure before/after as far as I know...
