Orrrrrrr, you could have salted out the soap. That would have removed the excess lye.

I find many times it more cost-effective toss a batch than to try to save it unless you know absolutely what was left out, and I will note, I hate salted out soap, even though I low superfat I like some superfat.I've rebatched a few times and most were disasters. Now I toss it.

I tried salting out soap once and liked the feel of "pure" soap. Just not something I'd do on a regular basis. Just throw some soap gratings into boiling salted water. Wait about 15 minutes for the curds to rise to the top. Skim the curds off and mold with gloved hands into balls or press into individual cavity molds. Some soapers think this is a fun thing to do.
