Newbie need help with this recipe a recipe (found on the internet) I am trying to cut in half.

44 oz tallow 22 oz tallow
20 oz olive oil 10 oz olive oil
20 oz coconut oil 10 oz coconut oil
12 oz lye 6 oz lye
32 oz water 16 oz water

I ran this though the lye calculator (for the half batch) at BB and for the smaller batch came out to:
6.22 oz of lye
13.86 oz water

Why the small difference in the lye? And why less water?

And can I add one oz of EO to the half batch? If so do I add 2 oz of water?

Thanks so much for any help or suggestions! I am new to soaping. This will be my second CP soap.

This is what the Soap Calculator shows:

http://www.soapcalc.net/calc/ViewRecipe.asp

I am not sure if this is going to work. The water shows 15.96 oz and the lye was 6.008 oz which pretty much rounds off to 6oz. I used Beef Tallow for the Tallow. This is with a 5% superfat.

Also depending what fragrance you are using it will not be very strong with only 1 oz. Most people use .5 to 1 oz per 16 oz oil. HTH :)

thanks

Laurie thank you I must have miscalulated the water. It gets kind of confussing at first.

Water amounts will change depending upon your lye concentration.
