As I look at lotion/cream recipes, so many call for glycerine. Wondering if there is a particular reason for this. Can I substitute it? Don't have any on hand at the moment. Also, borax seems to be used a lot, with and without e-wax. Reason on why borax is used if you use e-wax?

Thanx!

Glycerin is a humectant - it's part of what makes your moisturizer moisturizing without being too greasy.

Borax works with beeswax to create an emulsifier of sorts (not a great one IME). Sometimes more than one emulsifier is used in a formula.

I avoid borax in my products as it can cause skin rashes in sensitive people.

Glycerine is inexpensive, a great moisturizer and can be bought at most health food stores.

Thanks. I just made my first lotion trial and did not use the glycerine since I don't have it currently. So far, it seems really nice. I used goatmilk and used germall plus at 1%. Does this seem to be about right? It is my first attempt at a lotion, but looks/feels creamy and luxurious.
