Hi! Wishing everyone a happy, fun filled Thanksgiving! (hope 'soapaholics' are still viewing the forum this weekend :) )

Any ideas as to which oils when used in CP (not HP/HPOP) would produce translucent soap bar and what should their proportion be in soap?

When you say "translucent", do you mean like clear Melt & Pour? I don't know of a way to achieve that by simple CP with any oil, no matter how light the oil is. To make a translucent soap, it is a bit of a different method and it requires alcohol. Here's a little more info:

Well I think I had to put it as opalescent .I did not mean melt and pour soap nor glycerine/transparent soaps, but cold process soaps. I recall having read that certain oils produce beautiful soaps (Cold processed) which are almost opaque but faintly allow light to pass through. Any ideas?

Hmmm...some people find their gelled CP soaps to be less opaque than ungelled CP soaps. Could that be what youre referring to? Maybe someone else will chime in if they've heard of translucent or opalescent CP soap that doesn't involve alcohol

The only translucent soap recipe that I can call to mind is a hot proces melt & pour base.

I am hoping someone would be able to help too:)

I've noticed my gelled batches with a high percentage of olive tended to have a slight translucence/opalescence but they're weren't see through like clear MP. Maybe at least 65% olive?

I just did a batch with mostly canola as the soft oil, and it seems to be a bit more translucent.

I guess gelled soaps with certain oil combinations would make it look that way :)

If you can recall where you read that perhaps that will clear things up... but generally speaking CP soap will be somewhat translucent if you allow it to go through gel phase and it will almost always be opaque if you prevent gel. Some harder oils like coconut, palm, babassu, lard etc will lend a whiter more solid look to the finished CP soap. Softer oils might result in slightly less opaque soap but you don't really want to over do your percentage of soft oils or you could end up with rancid soap.
