I am new to soaping and like everything I do I've taken what I've read online and in books and am making my own way. Sometimes the results are better than others.

I spent most of my fun money on oils, and don't have many EOs. I've used a few infusions with herbs we have growing in the garden. I also did a facial bar with cinnamon, nutmeg and some clove. It smells amazing! However the nugmeg may have taken it across the line from exfoliating to painful skin stripping. Not that big of a deal, I'll just work up a lather in my hands.

But it got me wondering and I haven't foudn much info. Is there any reason I sholdn't use spices in my soap?

As you've noticed it can be abrasive. But mostly some spices are irritants. Cinnamon is a common one. Paprika can be too, my kids react to it if it stays on their skin. I am sure they are others potentially irritant.
