    Hello from India

Is the value 0.296? or is it 296?. I any case all you need to do is divide the saponification value of KOH by 1.403 Here is a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saponification_value

    Sodium Lactate

Thank you all for sharing your experiences with Sodium Lactate. So far I have learned that sodium lactate does help the soap turn harder (especially when working with soft soaps or soaps with high% soft oils) and hence easy to unmould, cut into pieces but doesn't reduce the cure time ( I could...

    Sodium Lactate

I have not used sodium lactate in my formulations. My question was does adding sodium lactate to CP/HP soap help increase the life of a soap in shower? Does addition of Sodium lactate cause soap to 'sweat' as it is a humectant? I let my soaps cure for 6 weeks, and have noticed that my aged...

    Sodium Lactate

So far, I have been soaping with only lye, oils, botanicals and EO's. The only drawback of my soap is that it turns soggy very soon (even if placed in a well drained tray, outside the shower). The constant rains and humidity for the past 2 months has me worried (We do not use a dehumidifier or...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

Recently I formulated a shampoo bar( high conditioning). It worked extremely well on my hair. We have soft water. My sister when on a visit tried the shampoo bar and loved it. But sadly, 2 days later when she tried the same bar at her place she had powdery buildup and tangled up hair the very...

    Coconut in Soap

I have used coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut fiber, and activated coconut shell charcoal in a soap. Coconut fiber( obtained when milk is freshly extracted from coconut) acts as a scrub and the soap came through fine. So have fun with your project!

    Single oil soap experiment

Did you use refined castor oil? I am asking because I once tried making soap using castor oil 45 percent and the rest coconut, waited 3 days but didn't harden, well, actually looked hard from outside, but was soft and creamy inside. Finally, I rebatched with salt and got a hard bar of soap. I...

    My New Labels

The labels are very beautiful, but I loved the lush and juicy appearance of soap. It is exactly the 'look' I was looking for!! Could you please share what oils bring about the translucent look and I guess it has gelled?

Charcoal Facial Bar Mush -- Can it be saved?

Personally, I feel this is a good opportunity for you to get over the apprehension of cooking soap. Try it, initially I too hesitated to cook. But once I did that, could identify the different stages during the cook process and became extremely confident wrt soapmaking. If you have a crockpot...

Charcoal Facial Bar Mush -- Can it be saved?

I think you can save the batch as you know exactly how much is in excess, don't worry. I did the same mistake once with a layered swirl(my first swirl), and a few minutes after I poured, realised had added excess oil :( for all the time spent on carefully layering and swirling) so I know...

    CP translucent soap oils

I guess gelled soaps with certain oil combinations would make it look that way :)

    CP translucent soap oils

I am hoping someone would be able to help too:)

    CP translucent soap oils

Well I think I had to put it as opalescent .I did not mean melt and pour soap nor glycerine/transparent soaps, but cold process soaps. I recall having read that certain oils produce beautiful soaps (Cold processed) which are almost opaque but faintly allow light to pass through. Any ideas?
