Help figuring out a recipe free of allergens

Quick question.... I found a silicone baking pan, and have never used one of these. Do I need to coat it with oil or anything? Or just pour it in? Thanks!

Help figuring out a recipe free of allergens

I don't buy on-line because I don't have a bank, so no credit/debit cards lol. If I ever really get into this I will buying online though. You just can't find what you need locally, without spending a fortune. I think I'm going to try a rice bran, apricot kernel, and palm oil combo. I just...

dirrdee- Glad you figured out your problem, that's excellent. We just barely had the test done and have good results so far. It is really hard to grocery shop lol, but whatever it takes. Hazel- I like that recipe, and thanks for going to so much trouble. My problem is I have a hard enough...

Help figuring out a recipe free of allergens

Yes, apricot kernel. Thanks for the advice on the tallow. I will play around on the lye calculator. I'm actually making this soap for my girlfriend. She just had her food sensitivity test done (this is different than a food allergy test for anaphylactic reactions which are immediate...

Help figuring out a recipe free of allergens

Thanks for the reply's everyone. So If I was to do 50% rice bran, 25% tallow, and 25% apricot I should have a decent bar of soap? I haven't ran this through the lye calculator, but I will when I get a min. I'm glad I checked with you guys, I probably would have ended up with a really...

Well coconut comes from the palm tree so I'm avoiding palm oil also.

Help figuring out a recipe free of allergens

Thanks for the tips! I'm glad to hear the rice bran oil is a good substitution for olive. I am open to using tallow. I like the idea of the shea and cocoa butter for hardening the bar too. With the options I have, what combinations would make the best bar of soap?

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

LOL  Ok that sounds perfect. Thanks You add the EO's and cornflour BEFORE the lye?! I've been adding mine after it reaches trace. How does that work out? I'm new to all this (I've only done 4 or 5 batches so far). Thanks for the posts everyone.

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

Ok, thanks everyone. You've got me on the right track I think. Going to use 1oz orange ppo w/ a tbsp of cornstarch ppo. And I'm going to look around for some dried orange peel too. Now one final question though. I smelled a nice body wash at work today that was sweet orange and patchouli...

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

Wow, thanks for all the input! Looks like it's experiment time. I'm liking the orange and cedarwood idea. But I have an excess of patchouli, so I might give that a try also. How much cornstarch would you add? Dragonkaz: When you say 1/4 orange 1/4 patchouli, what do you mean? 1/4 and...

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

How did you do the peels? Dry them from fresh? What's the most citrus oils you've added ppo? I have over 4oz of orange to work with on a 3lb batch. :)

How much Orange EO to make the scent last?

I want to make an orange scented CP soap soon, but have been reading about how the citrus scent fades. If I'm making a three pound batch, how much orange EO would you use? I might be adding some clove, cinnamon or cassia to it too. Anybody ever put orange peel into soap? Should I...

Second batch complete w/ Brambleberry wood mold. Works great

Looks nice. What size batch does it take to fill it? The bars do look kinda small though. I wonder what the finished weight is.

Castile vs Bastille. . . That is the Question

I havn't seen a castile soap at the store that is just olive oil and lye. Dr. Bronner's Soaps say they're castile soap, but olive oil is the 3rd or 4th ingredient. Same goes for the Dessert Essence brand (which I love). From what I've read, the def. of castile soap is that it only...

    Using aluminum molds

I should think you can use whatever you want for a mold as long as the soap doesn't get through whatever your lining it with. I've been using a metal pan (looks like aluminum but not sure), with a trash bag as a liner. They've been coming out great.
