    Feeling the pressure

This is silly, I suppose, but I feel so intimidated. My neighbor ha s been making soap for 30 yrs. she got instruction and a recipe all those yrs ago--and that is all she has ever used. No scents, colors, no exploration of diffe rent oils or recipes. She never knew lye calculators exsisted...

    Can't figure

Three months ago I tried a new recipe. My husband wa nted a harder soap with lots of lather. I used 33percent CO, 12 percent PKO and 55 percent tallow. I added 2 percent salt. It's nice and hard, but at my one month test, no lather. I mean virtually none. Two months ago, I tried...

    Did have a big oops

Funny, someone else just posted she almost put in too much mint, and I did. Used twice as much as I should have. I know I can grate it up and incorporate it into a new batch. I am wondering if I could add it into slices in a new batch? Would that avoid the over tingle? I made it...

    heating and holding

I am having a terrible time heating and holding--can't seem to find a good way to do it. I only have a small hot plate in my workroom. I have tried my crockpot and my electric roaster filled with water and used as a double boiler, but can't seem to get up to temp. Anyway, suggestions...

    lye heavy laundry soap

I made a batch of laundry soap, 0% superfat, but it actually came out a tad lye heavy. Can I use it for laundry soap or will it eat my clothing? I use the fairly standard1/3 each soap/borax/washing soda recipe.

    Labeling?

I made a soap cake to donate to an auction. On the cake will be a cp "icing" a MP icing, and finally a ring of cp heart shaped soaps around the bottom. Do I list each element separately on the ingredient labels? ie The cake consists of: The chocolate icing consists of: and so on...

    lye resistant

Does anyone know if plastic with a recycling symbol #6 on it can be used as a mold? Does anyone know of a web site or place where I can find out what types of plastics can be used with lye? Thanks

    High OO cure

Since Castile does better with a very long cure, I assume it follows that a high olive recipe does better with a longer cure? If so, what % of OO in a recipe calls for a longer cure time? Is there a rule of thumb, or is it all just testing?

    Whipped butter ?

I make a whipped butter with mango, aloe, shea and oils. I soften the butters a bit in the microwave, whip and then add the oils and whip some more. I end up with some bits of butter that are not whipped, just little firm flakes. Not softening enough? Should I whip the mango before...

    kiwi slice

Hi, I will be helping with a kids craft next month. We will be making fruit slices of M&P and I am having some trouble with the kiwi. I have been embeding a white center and pouring fairly hot clear/colored soap over it so it melts a bit. Then I am trying to use a toothpick to drag...

    cure for laundry soap

I have been making my laundry soap, cutting it into slabs, allowing it to cure, then grating it. Could I grate it before the cure and cure it grated? It would be easier to grate when it is softer. Explanations would be wonderful--I know of course that soap has to cure and that it...

    Hello

Hello, My name is Toni and I'm an addict. I seriously need to stop! My family has enough soap till the end of 2011--and that is taking three baths a day. OK maybe not the three bath part. I made a soap cake a few weeks ago for a friend, and having run out of melt and pour, needed...

    what colors do you like?

Life is so funny sometimes. I hosted a "spa day" for my DILs Bday, along with her sister. I made a bunch of guest soaps for the party favors. One batch was, IMO, a dud. I tried a new scent. to me it stank! And the plain brown color did not do anything for me either (scent had vanilla...

    lye concentration

I have read that choosing a lye concentration is a better method of soaping than do liquid as a % of oils, and that the lye concentration is important in the outcome of the soap. How do I intelligently choose a correct concentration for a particular recipe?
