I suspected aloe powder but the powder is brown. This feels like its the lower bit in the batter that hasn’t mixed fully with the lye. Dug out a bit of the white bit and it looks like regular soap without the aloe.
Is there such a thing as partial saponification? 😅 I’m trying to understand what...
Of course, everyone’s skin chemistry is different and the same ingredient can affect different people differently.
Yes, the customer specified that they wanted colloidal and not regular oatmeal. Made a sample batch for them to test out and they gave the OK.
Made a large batch of soap and poured in a 5kg mould. My current SB almost fully submerged into the mixing pot so I used a whisk in one hand and SB the other to mix and blend alternatively.
I suspect some of the oils at the bottom didnt fully incorporate with the lye (?). A few of the bars have...
Absolutely! Fine ground oatmeal is nice in soaps.
But I have a request for specifically using colloidal oatmeal for their eczema-prone skin so dove into this rabbit hole :D
It's quite expensive and not readily available here.
Noted, thanks!
This was an interesting read too:

I bought a big box of organic oat flour to add in soaps. After some research I realised that colloidal oatmeal is oat ground up with the bran, the oat flour I’ve bought uses only the grain.
Since oat bran is available separately, mixing oat flour with oat bran should make colloidal oatmeal...
Hello! I'm from a coastal region in South India.
I've been on this forum for over 7 years and thought it was time for a formal introduction!
I run a small business selling direct to customers, as well do wholesale orders. I also love customising soaps for friends and family for special...
Ooh great! Thank you :)
This doesn't provide us with much information about the ingredient(s) unfortunately.
Going to make a test batch today, with soy chunks from Bizpressions. Will report back on that
Hi
I recently made a test batch with soy wax and no palm. The bar was rock hard! I think I used it at 18%
Used soy flakes from Vijay Impex for that batch. Just ordered soy chunks from Bizpressions to test out to see if there is a difference
Okkayy. I just realized the soy chunks on Bizpression...
I'm not entirely sure about that tbh so will allow the experts to chime in on that.
Sharing your formula might help. Does your formula contain a high amount of butters?
Hmm.. I suspect that they may be lye crystals. It happened to a batch that I once made and it kind of looked like this. Have you tried a zap test on it?
Ohhh. For whatever reason, I was under the impression that Citrus EOs would accelerate trace! Did err on the side of caution.
The Oleic % is 49 btw! This is what kept it fluid I guess? This bar will melt fairly quickly because of the high oleic number, so the butter is an attempt to help that...
I've played it safe for many years with soaping (after initial experimentation) and stuck to only natural colorants and minimal "design". The most creative I've gotten with soap is making 2 layers :p
I felt I needed a challenge now and I wanted to make soaps for a dear friend's birthday next...
Some days can be heavier than others, hang in there!
Hopefully, no one was hurt, but on the flip side - this is how we figure things out, and having a memorable visual to go along with it will ensure we never make the same mistake twice! xx
