    Fixing LS that tests cloudy

Although I've used the formula many times, this time when I test the soap base in distilled water, it turns cloudy. I don't know what went wrong. I tried adding more koh to part of the soap base and heating it but the test continues to result in cloudy water. What can I do? The formula was done...

could extra virgin oo cause cloudy liquid soap?

Thanks to all for their feedback! Its amazing the help provided by this forum´s members! My original batch had 7 kilos of oil. I used soapee to make the calculations. The total lye using 4% superfat was 1,558.5 grams and when I changed the superfat to 0%, the lye came up to 1,623.5 gram, a...

could extra virgin oo cause cloudy liquid soap?

I changed 2 things in my liquid soap formula: 1.) I used extra virgin instead of "non-extra virgin" olive oil and 2.) I used 4% superfat instead of 0%. My formula has olive, coconut, sesame oil, and small amounts of castor and wheatgerm oil. Usually I get clear liquid soap, though last time it...

Using fats to use up excess lye in liquid soap

Thank you DeeAnna and AliOop for your feedback. I used a cold process method to cook the soap base. I used the handmixer continuosly for as long as it was feasable and then covered it well and occasionaly mixed manually. It reached a nice amber color and when tested in hot water, the water...

Using fats to use up excess lye in liquid soap

DeeAnna, thank you for your comment. How do I go about adding fat to the soap base? Can I add some olive oil which is tge main ingredient in the formula? What percentage of the soso base weight should I start out testing? Should I add dustiled water also?

Using fats to use up excess lye in liquid soap

In an old thread "fixing lye heavy liquid soap," Dye Anna tought me a great solution to fix lye heavy soP that had alreadybeen dissolved and it involved adding a citric acid or borax solution. Is it a good idea to go ahead and add water to the soap base and then fix it with citric acid?

Using fats to use up excess lye in liquid soap

I made liquid soap with a formula I’ve used before with good results, but this time I get zapped with the soap base but I can’t pinpoint what I did wrong. My question is how can I neutralize the excess lye if I don’t know how much oil is missing. The soap is cooked but I haven't added water to...

Fixing very low KOH in liquid soap batch.

I made a big mistake making liquid soap a couple of days ago and I´m so absent minded I hadn´t realized until now! I used Soapee calculator for the formula of my soap but I checked the NaOH button, although I know perfectly well it should have been KOH. So I used KOH in my soap but in the...

Saving cold process soap with low fragance

Time and again I'm amazed at the wisdom and common sense I find here. Thank you! I hope some day I can give good advice to people like you do, although I know my mistakes are a way for other people to learn.

Saving cold process soap with low fragance

I added too little essential oil to cold process soap I made. Is it possible to make it more fragrant after it is done? For example, will it improve if I put it in a box and add cotton swabs damped in essential oil?

Lavender and peppermint eos thicken my liquid soap too much

I was hoping there could be some sort of catalyst that could make the liquid soap less viscous doing the opposite of what adding salt does. I saw a thread a whie ago that stated that adding aloe vera could achieve this but that experiment I don´t know how it turned out in the long run.

Lavender and peppermint eos thicken my liquid soap too much

Thank you DeeAnna for your suggestion. I know adding water is an option but I would prefer not to lower the scent. What percentage of this eo mixture would you add to maintain a nice fragrance?

Lavender and peppermint eos thicken my liquid soap too much

I scent my liqud soap with equal parts of lavender and peppermint eos, 1.2% of the diluted soap. The soap stays clear but it gets too thick and clumpy and though it improves after a month or more, I wonder if there is a way to reduce its viscosity without having to reduce the percentage of eos...

Only my peppermint CP soaps develop DOS!

I would be very grateful if some fellow member could help me with this dilema. I make 25 pound batches of cold process soap which I divide at light trace into four sub-batches with different essential oils and additives. The last sub-batch I work on is the simplest one, with only peppermint...

    Oh No! Is this DOS?

Hello, The image shows droplets that appear on the cold process soap I Made yesterday and covered up with a plastic sheet. There's also a tint of Orange which shouldn't be from the eo which is 100% peppermint. Maybe it could come from the oils: one of them is sesame oil macerated with calendula...

    fixing lye heavy liquid soap

Thanks again DeeAnna! How do I go about ADDING more KOH? I would think the method would be similar to when I added the citric acid: Make a KOH solution (what concentration should I use?). Try first on samples... Is that right?

    fixing lye heavy liquid soap

Hello Dee Anna and fellow forum members. So, I followed DeeAnna's instructions, made a 20% citric acid solution and tried it on several samples. I found I could add up to 7.5% of thethe solution to the samples without it turning cloudy so I went ahead with bigger amounts. I divided the 15 kilos...
