    Lilac drop swirl

I am absolutely thrilled with this drop swirl, I think it's my best ever - Lilac fragrance from Tamera's Soaping Scents behaved beautifully. Soaped cool but I had plenty of time to play. Colors from Nurture - Wisteria purple, Laurel Green and Lemon Chiffon.

    Playing with pictures

I took a bunch of pictures the other night while learning how to use my Shotbox, a photography light box. The deep pink is Ashes of Roses, scented with First Blush, a nice rose. The other is my beer soap, scented with a nice essential oil blend. I need to get better backgrounds, the grass...

    Bees with Honey

Here are the soaps, I'm calling this one Bees with Honey. The spirals are just plain fun, maybe they'll be Spiral Honey scented with Honey L'Octainne type from Elements Bath & Body.

    Finally in my soap lab

My son, bless his heart, told me he'd build me a soap room in a room in my cellar. There was a bar down there when I bought the house over 40 years ago, but it was never used. He reconfigured the room, gained a few square feet more for it (it's overall 14x16' but there's bumps around the...

Figgy Oat Soap from The Essential Herbal

I love making recipes developed by Marci Tsohonis, who writes for The Essential Herbal magazine. The scent used here is something I came up with and am happy to share. I'm including the recipe if you want to try it. I have people who really love this one, the first batch sold quickly...

    Ash as a feature

Sometimes ash is a feature. This is First Blush from Tamera Soaping Scents, made with rose clay and a little raspberry mica from Nurture. I did add glitter, but the ash is what makes this soap shine!

    Make Foaming Bath Whip

Is there a method somewhere I can follow to make foaming bath whip? I'm not even certain what that is, but it seems popular and I'd rather make it than buy it. Any help would be wonderful and yes, I have searched - all I can find are people using it, not making it.

    First Liquid Soap - volcano!

Well, that was certainly exciting. My very first volcano making the liquid soap. It did stay in the pot, as I whipped it into the sink. Whew! When it calmed down I returned it to the stove and I think it reached the stage it should reach. It didn't take near as long as I'd read it would...

First Cream Soap - first whip

I made this cream soap 2/26, whipped today, with no water - I am absolutely amazed at the consistency! It's silken. I put it back to rot more. I am very curious to see what I'm supposed to do with this stuff! This was made with tallow stearic and lard. I'm planning on leaving it be for a...

A few pics from the blizzard

I woke up this morning to blizzard conditions - and more snow than they had downgraded to. 14" and counting. As long as the power holds I'm fine with it. It's going to be subzero for the next few nights, and not out of single digits during the day. More snow on Tuesday. We've moved into the...

    'Salting out'

I've seen this term many times and Google hasn't taught me much. What exactly does that mean? I have particularly seen it in reference to Aleppo soap. Boiling it? I'm confused, any info or just a prod in the right direction would be appreciated.

    Pumpkin Soap

I made a pumpkin oatmeal buttermilk soap this weekend. I added three ounces of pumpkin (roasted it myself), because I'd read somewhere to use an ounce ppo. Three pound batch. I took out a bit of it, added some TD, to the base I added a Pumpkin Brulé FO. It discolors to a medium brown. I am...
