That's good to know because I just found one and it's hearts. I paid about .25 for it at the thrift store. I didn't know you didn't have to grease it.

    Soap press

Yeah you could cut the board that is the lid a little shorter and little more narrow so it will fit down inside the mold so you could mash the soap with it. With the mold like dagmar is showing.

    Shaving Soap?

Chris, how can you superfat at 15%? The calc. only goes to 10%. At 10% calc. says 8.12 oz, so 5 more % would be 8.57 oz. so would it be 16.69 oz. for the lye? Am I figuring that right?

yeah they ARE very pretty aren't they! Good job! Is that one of those down spouts you used for the mold? I saw some where that you could use those for molds. Thank you Castor for that tip! I made my second batch I believe it was with ground up oatmeal and man it IS scratchy. When I first start...

Newbie getting started, looking for advice

I'm still a newbie myself but do understand now why they all tell us to start out with a small batch with less oils. Once you get the feel of it and know what to expect about the tracing and the consistancy etc. you can go with more fun stuff. :)

    Soap Cutter

My sister just told me her step daughter has a guitar so she's going to check and see if she has a broken or messed up one. From what I am understanding you just hook the guitar string, one end to the small board and the other end to the side board on the cutter and you pull tight on the string...

Rebatching some soap and how much oils?

Thank you Carebear. Oh I see, you have to know the amount of water that has already gone into the soap and the oils as well. hmmmmmmm so I see WHY everyone hates to rebatch because it's soooo if-e. lol I'll just have to experment a little with a little of the soap. ;)

Rebatching some soap and how much oils?

I have just finished grating my soap that's several weeks old. I want to rebatch it so I can put some good oils in it to make a really nice soap that will help my very dry skin. I only had like 6 nice bars of plain soap that was cured to use for this batch. Haven't weighed it yet but am...

So blue and yellow make grey?

I was reading in the Soapmakers Companion earlier this evening and it seems the PH in the soap from what I am understanding, makes it have different colors. I was reading in the natural coloring soaps area about the alkanet root and it said that it colors an acid vegetable oil with a PH of 6...
