    Deodorant Soap?

I make a blend of Litsea Cubeba, Ginger and Patchouli EO's which some of my customers claim to be a deodorant soap. Their claim, not mine :) 2 parts Litsea 1 part Ginger 1 part Patchouli

Coffee Junkie & Herbal Tea! *Photos Added*

Wow. That is a pretty hefty chunk of soap :) Halving them seems like a good idea.

Coffee Junkie & Herbal Tea! *Photos Added*

Excellent soaps :) I much prefer the rebatched coffee with the beans on top. If you use a wider diameter PVC you can cut the rounds into half moons which fit the hand very nicely. That is my favourite shape right now.

    All those empty oil/butter containers/bottles ....

Excellent idea, Rubyslippers. Thanks. I have been labelling the bulbs with marker, but that is not very efficient. The baggies are an ideal solution.

    Liquid Castille

Hi Mayren I use Whipped Soap, not Cream Soap. Whipped soap is made with only NaOH and does not contain KOH so it results in solid bars. The soap has a high percentage of hard oils (80%) and is whipped rather than stick blended. You can read up on the process here...

A Castle type liquid soap experiment (lot of pix)

Thanks for the inspiration, Layne. I have had a big bottle of liquid soap (my first and only attempt with KOH) sitting around for ............um................years. I am going to try to make some toothpaste now, rather than using the mix of salt and bicarb which we normally use.

Where do you make your soap?

I soap in the kitchen too. All the surfaces are covered with heavy duty bin liners ( the large wheely bin size ). Easy to wipe clean and re-use, tossed out when they become tatty.

shelf life of essential oils, fragrance oils?

I keep forgetting that most of the forum members do not live in Africa :) I have a special fridge for my more delicate soaping ingredients as the temperatures here in Spring, Summer and Autumn can get pretty high. The thermostat is set at it's lowest ( least cold ) setting, but I have no idea...

    metal stamp causing discoloration

Did you keep an unstamped control bar ? That would definitely point to the stamp as the cause of the discolouration. What metal is the stamp made of ? If it is not stainless steel / contains aluminium then the metal is reacting with the lye if saponification is not yet completed. I also...

shelf life of essential oils, fragrance oils?

I have some EO's that are YEARS old and still smell pretty potent. They are best kept in amber or cobalt glass bottles and even better kept in the refrigerator.

    Peppermint Orange?

Photosensitivity may be an issue with leave on products, but soap is wash off. There is very little, if any, EO left on the skin.

    Lye--how long can it sit?

I feel your pain. I hate batching the lye with a passion. PS !!! I use the large (25 Kg, 55 lb.) very thick bucket with a VERY tight fitting lid in which my Lye is supplied.

    Post menopausal soap

Cohosh (black or blue) does not smell too good at the best of times. I could barely bring myself to drink a cup of cohosh tea, so I imagine it would not smell too good in soap either. You would have to bump up the FO or EO to disguise the smell. Let us know how it turns out if you decide to...

    Fresh berries and disaster, maybe?

I got that strange texture and feel to soap when I added anything with a high acidity level, Hibiscus powder being one organic which I will NEVER, EVER use again. Strawberries have Ascorbic Acid in them, so perhaps that is the culprit. The soap should be usable after a long cure.

Fed up with getting my soap out of the molds!

You could also try re-usable liners. Here is the link............. http://soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewto ... highlight=

    Bentonite clay

I make an unscented Green Tea and Bentonite Clay soap for oily skin. Green Tea infusion for the liquid and 40 grams clay to 1000 grams of oil. My customers swear by it, even adults who suffer from acne on their shoulders and backs.
