Has anyone used the tube / cylinder soap molds like the one that essential depot has? The one with the interlocking sides?? Was watching a few youtube videos of people using the mold. soap feels drying

I have a question, I have had different outcomes when making soap and I am not sure why, maybe someone out there has an idea. I have had some soap turn out fine and some turn out on the drying side even though I am using basically the same recipe, and a mild-conditioning recipe to boot. I know I...

    safety gear issue

Concerning safety gear for working with lye soap. I use latex gloves, and usually a painters mask during work with the lye cause it tends to burn the wind pipe a bit, and safety glasses. My problem is with the safety glasses, they fog up so badly I can't see a thing, and as quick as I clean them...

    sugar and salt

I have used sugar in the past to increase lather, however I was told that adding 1/2 a tsp of salt to 1 # soap recipe would make a harder bar. Has anyone out there ever done that? Also, what would the "reaction" possibly be to add both sugar and salt to your recipe? or would one counter act...

anybody add glycerin to their CP soap?

I realize that when lye and fat mix it creates glycerin, however I have heard rumors that some soap makers add a touch of glycerin to their soaps to enhance the conditioning. Is this true and does it work? Also, I looked on soap calc, and there was no option for glycerin, so if someone out...

how soft is too soft-the numbers game

I like a harder bar of soap I try to run my numbers around 40 for hardness, but I am wanting to make a high conditioning soap for winter time, and I know that hardness and conditioning tend to be "antagonistic" when it gets harder the conditioning tends to go down. I am looking at a conditioning...

    pocked maked soap -airbubbles?

Most all of my soaps have turned out ok, or reasonably decent, I can only remember one crash. I have had an going issue-it is only cosmetic in appearance, and although the soap is still quite usable, I find quite annoying.. Mostly it is the bottom of the soap, it is pock-marked in appearance...

    re-visiting the PH meter issue

I haven't made soap or been on the forum for a very long time. My daughter asked me to make some soap for her and the new grand baby, so did a bit of calculating and made some colostrum soap which seems to have turned out fine. milk soap losing conditioning effect as it ages...

I made a milk soap using jersey milk instead of water-- 56% O.O 23% PKO 4% COCO 9% castor 5% lard and 7% supperfatting. It turned out well and left your skin feeling silky soft. I have noticed as it has aged over the last 4-5 months or so the silky -conditioning feeling has gotten less and...

how to get more conditioning in base recipe??

I am trying to put together a base recipe for a milk soap at 7% superfatting. Using only a few ingredients. I am trying to keep the Olive oil low, as my skin doesn't seem to like too much olive oil for some reason, but my skin seems to like lard for some strange reason. I am trying to keep the...

I was on the internet, and was reading and article about someone making soap out of sour milk.. They said the sodium lactate ( think it was) made an incredibly hard bar of soap. Anyone ever try sour milk soap?? or would it be very similar to using yogurt? If so does it smell bad after...

    uneven saponification in soap bars???

The problem is probably being impatient in trying out new soap to see how it has came out instead of letting it cure longer, but thought I would pass this by those of you who are much more experianced. I made a couple of different batches of soap, and had the same thing happen with all of them...
