I found a wood box at a thrift store that was used to hold a bottle of wine. It is really thin, less than 1/2" thick and I don't see any screws. It holds about 3.5 lbs batch. It didn't fall apart on me. I've only made 1 batch so I don't know if it will with more useage.
What about coconut oil, which is solid at room temperature? If I melt it and mix with my other oils prior and it starts to solidify, would it be okay to mix in the lye? The lye will heat up and melt it right?

Why have a wooden mold and go through the trouble lining it when you can get silicone loaf molds? Is it cost? I've also seen silicone within wooden molds. Can someone explain why?
