Woad question

I tried searching here and the web for an answer, but couldn't find a straight one. Is it to be infused or added straight to soap? Or maybe even the answer is both. :?:

If added at trace, is it scratchy? I want to try some to make a swirl since I have the slab mold. I thought the blue might go nice with the NG huckleberry.
