Just wondering if anyone knows a good place to get decorative paper to wrap CP soaps in?

Thanks!

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they have half off sales on scrapbook paper pretty often. That's usually where I get mine.

There is a scrapbooking store near me called Archivers that has more paper than you could look at in a week. Scrapbooking is a pretty big thing there are stores and giftshops all over dedicated to it. No one has had cheaper paper than Hobby Lobby though, that I have seen.

It's really not that hard to make your own decorative recycled paper out of junk mail, newspaper, etc... I do it with the same stick blender I use to make my soap.

There are how-to videos on youtube, and I have a step by step article from a local "go green" electronic magazine. I could e-mail it to you if you're interested, or upload it somewhere.

I actually thought about doing this, but then I thought that handmade paper comes out kind of thick. Am I incorrect?

That all depends, it can be as thick or as thin as you want it... My first time making paper turned out to be about the same thickness as construction paper, which I liked. You can make it thinner, though, by using a roller to press it before it dries for example.

Here is that article I mentioned (pages 7-10)

Cool! Thank you! I wonder if you can use paper from a paper shredder? I have a lot of that.

thanks again for all the info...making my own paper sounds great, but for now I think I'll stick to buying it....all I want to do is make soap....all of the time...lol! Maybe when my obsession wears down a little I'll try my hand at the paper

I use African handmade paper to wrap my CP soaps. I found this paper by playing around on Google. The paper is made from communities of women that get together to make the paper and make money for their families. It is a Fair Trade product. They make the paper from recycling cotton and vegetable fibers. You can read more about on my web page on http://www.fasanis.com and you can purchase some of the papers on Etsy on http://www.cotaproducts.etsy.com.

Have you tried adding something to color the water? FD&C? Ultra marines? would that make the paper colored?

It is a little more expensive, but I get rolls of paper from Paper Source. (If I'm really feeling rich, I'll get the individual sheets, but they have fantastic rolls of paper too.) They have beautiful patterns that look upscale. If you're not going for that look, good ol' brown parcel paper (the kind people wrap packages in to mail) looks earthy and breathes well. You can purchase that by the roll also.

On a side note, I am regretting reading that it is easy to make your own paper. Soaping has caused me to branch into a million different things already, and I think I just found one more that I will now have to try! :?

they have a lot of nice wrapping paper that can be used to wrap your soaps, especially nice if want everything uniform.

I second this suggestion, lots of options, many made in usa and or recycled...check their clearance section for "jeweler's rolls" of gift wrap....24"x100' in a nifty cutter box. :)

ah yes, another great idea.
and phpworm is correct, once you make it a few times you find out how to work into the type of paper you want.

That’s great. I love the stuff. I honestly say that I will use it on every thought, from here on out. Thanks, for the review.

You can also print out your own decorative paper by using Printmaster, Printshop or any other desktop publishing software.
