Hi all. Say your not using anything but regular water for the water in your recipe....is there any benefit or reason to discount your water from the standard 38% to say 36% or lower etc.? Will the soap be harder? Cure quicker?

The less water you use, the faster the soap will become harder. With that said, some fragrances accelerate trace, so it's best to use full water amount.

You pretty much need the full water amount for lilac from BB, but the reason for less water is to quicken the cure time - the time for your bars to become good and hard.

upsides - faster cure long term, faster to trace (especially nice for olive oil soaps).

but there are downsides to reducing water. it's harder to get your soap to gel, can cause trace to accelerate, and (in MY experience) more likely to experience a FALSE trace which separates in the mold.
