Hi and welcome! You need to not use a recipe from a book without checking it first. Start playing with soapcalc.net by clicking on the numbers in the sections and trying out different oils. If her birthday is anytime in the next month, you have waited too late to learn cold process. And you will need some additional equipment. Please be sure that fragrance is intended to use with cold process soap. Not all of them are.

Bookmark these, you are going to need them:

Equipment you must have:

Good digital scale that weighs in grams.

Vinyl/nitrile/latex/rubber/ or other fluid impervious gloves

Safety goggles

Immersion blender

Silicone spatula or plastic spoon with long handle

Stainles steel or plastic tub with 2 or 5 in the little triangle on the bottom

The non stainless steel containers/spatulas/spoons you use for soap will not be usable for food afterward if you use any sort of fragrance or essential oils.

Hi and welcome :)
I'm sure your wife will love the soap you make for her!
Just remember your soap needs to cure for at least 4 weeks - 6-8 weeks or more can be better.
Lots of information on the forums here to get you started.
