My first batch of soap took so long to trace I decided to go out and get a stick blender which seemed to work well and traced in 5 minutes but my new batch has a white film on the top. While the soap was suppose to be white it has white spots and a little darker spots as well. What did I do wrong? I am thinking maybe air bubbles but am afaird to make my next batch until I figure out what I did wrong. It was a different recipe then my first because I am trying small batches of different ones til I find one that I really like. Any ideas or suggestions ?

It might help to have a picture, but my guess is that it is ash. It is cosmetic and will not hurt the soap. You will likely want to zap test the soap by clearing off an area that has the white over it and then testing it, but it should be okay. In the future, you can help avoid some ash by spraying the top of your soap with alcohol.

What oils did you use? Darker spots could be from any unrefined palm, etc.
