I am trying to create a heady exotic scent, for a HP scrub soap. I am thinking palmarosa, lavender, rosemary, myrrh and patchouli. Would this work or how would you alter this? Thanks.

When developing blends it is helpful to know the top, middle and base notes and the percentage to use for each. I would omit the rosemary. I actually use a blend with frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood (FO), and patchouli. I use a cotton ball or Q-Tip method when testing blends. Use drops instead of parts or percentages for each EO or FO, put the cotton balls or Q-Tips in a jar and seal. Leave for a couple of days and take the lid off the jar, just wafting the scent under your nose.

Thank you. I hadn't considered FO - and as a result I discounted sandalwood EO on cost alone. I am going to order frankincense - it's years since I've enjoyed it's wonderful scent - and some decent sandalwood FO as well. The cotton ball idea sounds great - I had taken to placing drops on paper but it always smelled far too woody no doubt due to the paper itself. Much appreciated.
