This morning I did the following:

Measure out my water
Simmered it with 3 tea bags of green tea
Let cool

Added the lye to my water mixture

Well the water turned a very dark carmel shade.

I'm assuming the tea burnt from the lye?

Should I dump this, or might it be ok to use?

whenever lye reacts with certain things itll change the colors, in my experience most greens become a caramel color, i think it would still be fine to use, just might come out darker than you were planning...

I tried to red wine soap once and it turned ugly green, gray and then caramel brown. You never know what to expect with lye!
