I just heard that Wal-Mart had the 25 pound buckets of Armor Lard on sale for $20.00!

i just had to find out if this was true - for me - and discovered $18.00!!! of course i'm going to go back and get one soon.

Made lard soap... (about 40%)...
Had the hardest time getting it to gel and it is still super soft ... Did the same recipe with palm and got waaaay better results. Anyone else notice any differences using lard?

I've been making some very nice fairly hard soaps using lard. IMO lard itself is hard enough that it won't hurt your hardness if you use other hard oils, and adds nice conditioning and creamy lather, and inexpensive too. Here's the recipe I used:

lard 53%
coconut 23.5%
canola or olive 23.5%

And I got:

hardness 42-44
cleansing 16
condition 49-51
bubbly 16
creamy 26-28
iodine 52 (olive) 58 (canola)
INS 147 (canola) 160 (olive)
