I am very intersted in making the Genny's shampoo bar (http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=30946), but I don't have any shea butter laying around and am hesitant to buy some just for this purpose. Is there a substitute for shea butter?

I was thinking lard. Based on it's properties and even fatty acid profile, it seems pretty comparable. The major difference is in the palmitic and stearic acids
, which, from what I have read, are pretty similar.
Shea Lard
Hardness 45 42
Cleansing
0 1
Condition
54 52
Bubbly
0 1
Creamy 45 41
Iodine 59 57
INS 116 139

Shea Lard
Lauric 0 0
Myristic 0 1
Palmitic 5 28
Stearic
40 13
Ricinoleic 0 0
Oleic 48 46
Linoleic 6 6
Linolenic

What do you think? Shampoo bar with lard instead of Shea Butter? If not, any other thoughts?

I don't use shea and I suppose the reason why is because I love my lard soaps. Another vote here to say "go for it!" You will end up with a great bar of soap!
