Hey everyone!

I've been collecting soaps from hotel rooms on my trips to the US. Every time a new soap is needed, we take one from the bag, bringing back memories of the specific location. There's from the Bellagio to the Super8...

One of them smells and feels amazing to me. The Jasmine soap bar from the MGM Grand in LV 2011.

The scent AFAIK is custom made for the casino. Matching the scent used in the lobby. A mixture of jasmine and rose oil.

I've come to find that natural jasmine oil is quite expensive. How much pure oil is need per lb./kg soap for a normal scent? (Clearly noticeable, but not pungent. )

I have no idea what oil / fat is the basis of this soap? Anyone willing to make a guess?

There are specs of amber colored material enclosed adding a pleasant peeling and massage effect. No idea what those might be. I'll try to test some if them to see if I can get any clues.

The backside is shaped like the top of a Lego brick. I'll how it here once I unwrap the second and last bar. :(
This will be interesting once I've got a comparable result.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated - still quite the soap noob here.

I have no idea what might be in the soap, but I adore the MGM Grand, I could have sat for hours watching the lions. They had some babies when I was there and it was so amazing to watch the moms take care of them. Hope you enjoyed your stay there! Good luck finding out what's in the soap.

If you really like that soap you could call the hotel hostess. Hotels are more then willing to make guests happy if it means you will come back. I can imagine it would be fairly easy to get some soap from them.

If you want to make the soap, the massage bar mold From bramble berry might work for the shape. Don't know about the rest, sorry.

I'm guessing the brown flecks may be ground oatmeal which would give the soap a scrubby feel like a polishing bar. Oatmeal also soothes and is perfect for sensitive skin.

A 50/50% blend of jasmine and rose oils would tone down the jasmine giving it a familiar and homey floral scent not unlike honeysuckle rose.

As far as the soaping ingredients we would have to know whats in it before we could figure out a recipe.

I stayed at the MGM Grand in November and had a good time -- we went to the Eagles concert in the hotel arena. The hotel soap and other toiletries were nice quality, but I found myself wondering why the hotel chose such a sweet and floral scent for their house toiletries. It would not be something most men would care for (and it's not really my cuppa tea either).

I thought the soap had a creamy, expensive look and feel -- it definitely was "top shelf" as hotel soap bars go. It was not harsh or drying, and it lathered well with creamy abundant bubbles. The bar was milled to be very hard and lasting. My reaction to it was the soap was above average, but I did not think, "Wow, I'm saving every scrap of this to enjoy at home!" That said, I was not overly fond of the scent, so I'm sure that affected my perspective.

I really don't mean to rain on your parade, Monokoi. Your question is intriguing and interesting, and I hope you find some great ideas and answers.

Jasmine and rose are both absolutes. Very little is needed compared to the fragrance oil. There is a world of difference in the scent between the fragrance oils and the absolutes. When it comes to the two of those, I only use the absolutes

I can picture DeeAnna telling people about the holiday and only talking about soaps that were used along the way...................

I want to duplicate this soap, too! Really just the fragrance, but I do love the shape too. I've always used EOs because some fragrances sting my skin, and most of them have a fakey overtone. Not this soap, I loved it! I feel certain that a hotel is not paying the $$$$ for that soap to be made with genuine jasmine, so I even ordered some jasmine FOs. Yuck, they didn't smell similar at all then smelled very different, in a worse way, after saponification. I did buy a tiny amount of jasmine absolute (and some rose, although I didn't realize rose was a component of this, thank you) and I would only add that to soap if it had been hot-processed, since it's such an expensive ingredient. I do have a sample of this FO:
http://shop.lebermuth.com/manufactured_fragrances-p-jasmine_frangapani.php and it smells rather close, but I haven't tried it in soap.

I don't think the specks in the soap are oatmeal. It's possible that it's orange peel or another peel.

Good luck, and when I get around to trying the jasmine FO I will post here.
